Jesse Jarrold-Grapes is an award winning visual journalist currently freelancing in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky after graduating with a B.S. in Visual Communication and focus in photojournalism from the School of Visual Communications at Ohio University in 2023.
Jesse got his start in photography by exploring the outdoors at nature camps and hiking, taking photos of leaves and landscapes. Curiosity has been consistent and has led to a desire to teach others about the world.
Jesse’s first experience in visual journalism followed the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting covering walk outs and protests organized by fellow high schoolers. Introduction to the world of storytelling at this time was critical for Jesse and has continued to influence his approach to visual story telling.
